The mission of the Library and Archives (LAA) is to provide exemplary stewardship for its renowned collections, inspire scholarship by a multidisciplinary research community, and fuel discussion about the past, present and future of the American West. We strive to actively connect Autry visitors to book and archive collections in exhibition galleries and public programs, through engaging outreach and diverse collaborations.

In support of the Autry’s Resources Center Core Values, the LAA has also taken an active role in consulting with different Native nations and indigenous communities on how to best describe and manage holdings that are under review for or contain culturally sensitive information or restricted tribal knowledge. We also encourage researchers to foster similar relationships and practices.

The LAA is open to researchers by appointment only. Hours are Monday–Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and closed for major holidays and the last week of December. Please fill out the LAA Researcher Application Form to request an appointment.
