friends gathered at a table

From Melanie Bowerman | We grill hot dogs weekly now. I think it just makes us all feel like we're kids again. We grill in the yard, eat salty comfort food like we're at summer camp. One housemate is Dominican and she has been getting friends to deliver Malta Goya soda, which she drank as a kid. We make and drink Chaga tea in the evening to help us relax and believe that we are bolstering our immune systems. We have begun a tedious war with the dandelions taking over our lawn. We are gardening much more than we used to and are so grateful to have our backyard right now.

Food and Growth

During the pandemic, individuals' and especially students' use of technology became the main way many people stayed in contact with one another, from Zoom calls, Skype, and Facetime to virtual classroom settings and homeschooling. Some who had access to the Internet during the pandemic maintained and built connections within their community through.

Land Acknowledgment

The Autry Museum of the American West acknowledges the Gabrielino/Tongva peoples as the traditional land caretakers of Tovaangar (the Los Angeles basin and So. Channel Islands). We recognize that the Autry Museum and its campuses are located on the traditional lands of Gabrielino/Tongva peoples and we pay our respects to the Honuukvetam (Ancestors), ‘Ahiihirom (Elders) and ‘Eyoohiinkem (our relatives/relations) past, present and emerging.
